Privacy policy
This policy explains what happens to information about you and your baby when you use the NEST app or this website, or join the waitlist. NEST is run by Nest AI Care Ltd, a company registered in the United Kingdom (“we”, “us”). We are the controller of the personal data described here. You can reach us at hello@nest-app.ai.
The short version
- Your baby’s name, date of birth and due date, and when they last fed, slept or had a nappy change, are stored on your phone and never sent to us.
- Your account holds your email address and password, and what NEST needs to suggest activities. It’s stored by Amazon Web Services in London.
- If you join the waitlist, we keep your email address only to tell you when NEST is ready, and delete it automatically after a year.
- NEST has no advertising and no analytics or tracking tools. We don’t sell your data or share it with anyone to market to you.
- You can delete your account and everything it holds from inside the app.
What stays on your phone
These details are stored only on your phone. We never receive them:
- your baby’s name, date of birth and due date
- your name, if you give it, and how you’re related to your baby
- the pronoun you choose for your baby
- when your baby last fed, slept or had a nappy change
- anything you type in your own words
They are kept out of your phone’s iCloud, computer and Android backups too, so they stay on the phone itself. Deleting the app, or choosing Delete my account and data in its settings, removes them.
What your account holds
To use NEST you create an account. It holds:
- your email address and password, which you use to sign in
- a random number that stands for your baby, and contains nothing about them
- your baby’s age in whole weeks and the age band it falls in, worked out on your phone, and the calendar week our server learned it. Never their date of birth.
- the things you’ve told the app you have at home, such as a play mat
- which activities you did or skipped, on which day, and for how many minutes. Never a time of day.
We use this to keep your account working, sign you in on your phones, and suggest activities that suit your baby’s age, what you have at home and what you’ve done recently. Your phone checks every suggestion against its own safety checks before showing it to you.
The only emails the app sends you are codes: to confirm your address, to reset a forgotten password, and to confirm a new address if you change it. We don’t send marketing email.
Our server logs
When your phone connects to our servers, our logs note the time, what it asked for, and a number that identifies your account but not you. They’re kept for a month, to keep the service running and secure, and then deleted.
This website
This website uses no cookies, no analytics and no scripts. Like any website, the service that hosts it, AWS Amplify, receives your IP address and details of your browser when you visit, and keeps standard access logs for a limited time to deliver the pages and keep them secure.
If you email us, we use your email address and what you write to reply to you, and keep the conversation only as long as we need it to deal with your message.
The waitlist
If you join the waitlist on this website, we store your email address and the day you joined, and nothing else from the form. Your address isn’t written to our logs. We use it only to tell you when NEST is ready to download.
It’s stored by Amazon Web Services in London and deleted automatically a year after you join. To be removed sooner, email hello@nest-app.ai from that address and we’ll delete it; it then leaves our backups within seven days.
What we never collect
NEST doesn’t ask for or collect your location, contacts, photos, health records, or anything about what or how your baby is fed.
Who helps us
Amazon Web Services runs our servers, our sign-in service (Amazon Cognito), our database, this website and the waitlist, on our behalf and under contract. Your account data is stored in the AWS London region and encrypted at rest. We don’t share personal data with anyone else, unless the law requires us to.
When you download NEST from the App Store or Google Play, Apple or Google handle that download under their own privacy policies.
Our legal reasons
UK data protection law asks us to say why we’re allowed to use your data:
- To provide NEST to you, under our terms of use: your account, signing you in, and suggesting activities.
- Our legitimate interests: keeping our servers and this website secure, and replying when you contact us.
- Your consent, when you join the waitlist. You can withdraw it at any time by asking us to remove your address.
How long we keep it
- Your account data: for as long as you have an account. When you delete it, it’s removed from our servers straight away and from our backups within seven days.
- Our server logs: one month.
- The waitlist: a year after you join, or until you ask us to remove you.
- Emails you send us: only as long as we need them to deal with your message.
Deleting your data
In the app, open settings and choose Delete my account and data. It deletes your account and everything it holds from our servers, and the details stored on your phone. You can also email us and we’ll do it for you.
Your rights
You have the right to ask for a copy of your data, to have it corrected or deleted, to ask us to limit or stop using it, to object to how we use it, and to receive it in a format you can take elsewhere. Email hello@nest-app.ai and we’ll reply within a month.
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We’d be grateful for the chance to put it right first.
Children
NEST is for parents and carers aged 18 or over, and isn’t meant for children to use. The only information about your baby that leaves your phone is listed under “What your account holds” above.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update it here and change the date at the top. If a change affects what we do with data you’ve already given us, we’ll tell you before it takes effect.
